Thorlabs Silicon Plano-Convex lenses are popular for many applications in the IR (click here for other IR optics). They are typically used for imaging applications in the 3-5 μm region of the spectrum, making them excellent for security and military applications. They can also be used to collimate infrared lasers. These lenses are coated with a BBAR coating that provides 98% transmission in the 3-5 μm spectral range. Plano-Convex lenses have a positive focal length and approach best form for infinite and finite conjugate applications. Please see the link above for details concerning Best Form Lenses. These lenses focus a collimated beam to the back focus and collimate light from a point source. They are designed with minimal spherical aberration and have a focal length f= R/(n-1) where R is the radius of curvature of the convex portion of the lens and n is the index of refraction. |
